Behind “Marshwiggle”
Our farm’s name comes from the Marshwiggle, a character in C.S. Lewis’s The Silver Chair. He embodies many of the ideals we strive to live by and instill in our children: a simple life rooted in faith, courage to stand for truth even when it seems impossible, and determination to live that out close to the land. These values guide not only how we farm, but how we raise our family and welcome others here.
Our Story
James’s farming story began at age 12, when he wrote a business plan for raising pigs. His parents gave him the green light, and soon he was raising hogs to fill the family freezer. Sarahjane, who grew up in the country, always dreamed of living on a farm. As our family grew, we knew we wanted our kids to experience that same connection to the land—learning to work hard, care for animals, and grow food with their own hands.
In 2020, we purchased our farm and set to work. While remodeling the old farmhouse, we jumped right in with pigs, meat and laying chickens, and a big garden. Since then, the farm has only continued to grow: we replanted an orchard where the original once stood, created a private glamping site tucked away in the back fields, and began laying the groundwork for a large peony field that will bloom in the years ahead.
